Tokay Gecko trading is actually prevalent here in the Philippines. Nowadays, Tokay Geckos were being bought for a cost of Php 50 000 to Php 10 000 000 depending on its weight.

According to some buyers, Tokay Gecko is very lucrative because its tongue can be used as a medicine of AIDS, the meat is also an aphrodisiac while its blood and bile suppresses tumor.

The prevalence of Gecko trading  because of huge amount of money makes the people more aggressive in hunting this reptile. Many people who sell this gecko even in public because according to them, this reptile is not endanger species, and no one will catch them in hunting this reptile even the government.

The current prices of Tokay Gecko according to its weights are: 300grams-Php 50 000; 350grams-Php 300 000; 400grams-Php 1.5 Million; 450grams-Php 2 Million; 500grams-Php 2.5 Million and 1kilo-Php 10 Million.

However, we have heard that when you are caught selling or buying this reptile, DENR will caught you and you will get imprisoned. I don’t know if its true but there are legal buyers who are permitted to buy since they have buying permits. Well, which ever is true but I just wanted to let everyone know that this buying and selling of Tokay gecko is still very rampant here in our place.
